They are still selling their PS3 consoles at a loss! They are likely happy that they won't reach their unit objective this year, because the more PS3 they sell, the deeper in the red, the bottom line goes for the gaming division.
So, I'm guessing they won't make any profit on PS3s until third or fourth quarter of 2008 (bringing 2008 bottom line near 0). Lucky for us, they are making money of the games, PS2, PSP and so on, so that's why we can buy such a nice console for below...
I bought it for my PC just for that reason.
I'm buying it tonight anyway, but I'm really curious? Who's the author of the review?

Still, selling 2 millions consoles in the U.S. is not something to sneeze at, particularly since there wasn't many games since launch.

It's quite likely they don't even make much money from every consoles sold even today! They take a loss because they want to grab the market.

PS3 was close to $800, 360 was close to $600, manufacturing wise. Average it to $700, add profit, and you have a $800 console on the market... Wouldn't you buy a pc instead?
Nintendo cannot produce them fast enough as we speak. There's absolutely no fancy hardware in the console. It's extremely easy to put together!

Pick up ANY recent pc games. Look at the memory requirement for the game if you're running XP and if you're running Vista. You will see that if you're running the EXACT same game on Vista, you need 512mb and sometime up to 1Gb more of memory. It's the exact same game! So, ooops, why would you need an extra Gig? O.S. is hungry. Drivers are hungry (DX1O...). Antivirus. Firewall. And so on.
This is why, today, 2Gig of memory on a PC is just enough... If you let Microsoft go, ...

Otherwise, he would not have repeated what he read everywhere about Lair. Anybody who has flown a dragon in Lair will tell you that they are really easy to fly around. It's hard to do a 180 (not impossible, just hard) and the side by side air combat is just plain bad. But somehow, I don't think they would have done the same mistake in R&C
So in Lair, if you just fly around, you can do pretty much anything you want, and it's quite easy and intuitive.
